- November 15, 2007:Senate Chairman Muhammad Mian Soomro has taken oath as the caretaker prime minister on Friday morning after dissolution of the National Assembly on completion of its five-year term for the first time in the history of Pakistan. The appointment of Mr Soomro as the caretaker prime minister, primarily meant to oversee the next general election, surprised political observers here as the government had all along been saying that a "non-political" and "non-partisan" person would be given the job to ensure free and transparent elections.[19]

Pakistan's main stock market index KSE 100 has fallen nearly 5% to close at 13,279.60 as investors reacted to the emergency rule imposed by President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday. The fall was the biggest one-day decline on the Karachi Stock Exchange 100-share index for 16 months.[22]

The century-old building of Radio Pakistan located in the heart of Karachi city on M. A. Jinnah Road was badly damaged in a blaze on Sunday at around 10.45 am (PST). The transmissions were suspended for several hours due to the fire. A number of children, who were present for recording of a weekly children's programme, along with others were safely evacuated, officials said. (Karachinews.net)

Pakistani warplanes bombarded suspected pro-Taleban militant positions on Tuesday, as fierce fighting raged near the Afghan border for a fourth day. The army says 45 troops and 150 rebels have died in battles around the town of Mir Ali. Tuesday's air strikes left 50 rebels dead, unconfirmed reports say.(BBCWorld)

The central bank on Thursday issued the latest figures of liquid foreign reserves, which depicted an increase of 260.7 million dollars in overall reserves from 15.8182 billion dollars to 16.0789 billion dollars during the last week. - Twin-blasts in Rawalpindi, one in a bus another in a market area kill many; several injured;
- Six people were killed and some others were feared dead when a part of a key bridge of the Northern Bypass in Karachi collapsed on Saturday afternoon. Two trailers, one with a container and the other with a cement tank, were on the Shershah bridge at around 1.20pm when the 70-metre Baldia loop of the structure buckled. (Daily Dawn)

- Pakistan has successfully test-fired a new cruise missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The missile, named Hatf-VIII (or Raad, "thunder" in Arabic), has a range of 350 km (220 mi), and can carry all types of warheads, a statement said. (BBC World)
- A fire raged through the 15-storey Pakistan National Shipping Corporation building on Sunday in Karachi, leaving at least two firefighters injured and destroying a large number of valuable documents. The PNSC building, which was built in the early 1970s, has seen the second outbreak of a fire in seven months. The Feb 18 fire 'believed to have been caused by a short circuit' destroyed official records of the National Engineering Services of Pakistan. The PNSC manages a fleet of 14 ships. (Daily Dawn)
- Pakistan, marks 60th Anniversary of Independence from the United Kingdom and its creation on August 14, cheered by waved flags and set off firecrackers. Later in the day a minute's silence commemorated the hundreds of thousands of people who died in rioting when Pakistan was carved out of British India.Read More

- Qazi Hussain Ahmed, President of Muttahida Majalis Amal resigns National Assembly seat saying that the parliament was being neglected and whims of an individual.
- 24 Pak security men killed and at least 29 people were injured in Miranshah suicide attack.
- Gun battle erupted between the supporters of Lal Masjid and Pakistani security forces after six months of standoff between the two parties. The clash began when some militants tried to occupy a nearby government building. 150 students attacked a Government of Pakistan office near the mosque and took four officials as hostages. Subsequently he called for attacks on the forces, and students of the Lal Masjid had taken over certain government posts and had attacked government buildings. Read More

- Torrential rainstorms with gale force winds brought floods and destruction to Karachi, the capital of Sindh Province in Pakistan. Over 40 dead were recovered on Saturday and more than 180 on Sunday. Many more are said to have been injured by downed trees and power lines.

- Pakistan Day being observed today: Pakistan Day is being observed today (Thursday) with determination to strive harder for the country's prosperity, stability and security. The day will dawn with 21-gun salute in the federal capital and 19- gun salute in provincial capitals. Prayers will be offered for the country's progress and stability. It is a public holiday today. National flag will be hoisted on major government buildings. According to a decision taken after last year's earthquake, the day will be observed with simplicity and the usual armed forces’ parade will not be held. The major ceremony of the day will be held in President House where President Pervez Musharraf will confer awards upon top-ranking army and civil officials. - US, UK top portfolio investors in Pakistan: The United States and United Kingdom have absolute domination on foreign portfolio investment at the equity market of the country as their contribution is over 80 per cent of the total investment. While the contribution of the two allies of Pakistan on "War on Terrorism" is a positive sign, market experts fear that any disturbance in political relation with the two countries could easily evaporate the investment and cause instability.
